Muted color and timeless style bring serenity to Northville Township home
Muted color and timeless style bring serenity to Northville Township home Judith Harris SolomonWith its beautiful blue palette and its setting high above Hines Park, Richard and Katie Smith's Northville Township home is evocative of summer all year round.
Almost every wall inside the brick and limestone house is the same wonderful custom-mixed shade of blue.
"I make no bones about it. I love blue," Katie says. "And I wanted a blue house. I didn't want to overdo it but I wanted it to be subtle, timeless and to have a good flow throughout." Adds interior designer Jeffrey King: "All the colors in the house — the walls, the fabrics — are inspired by the sea."
The residence was completed in December of 2008. "But I had been thinking about it and planning it for a very long time," Katie says. "I read about Jeffrey King (the principal of Jeffrey King Interiors in Birmingham) in a local magazine back in 1998. And I thought to have Jeffrey King do your house would be 'wow.' I first called him in 2004 about doing just one room in my previous home. But at that time he was swamped with some huge projects and wasn't able to help me. But I called him again in 2008 when we were just starting to build this one. He came out three days later."
"Katie was a very prepared client. She really knew what she wanted and was able to articulate it through her well-planned scrapbook. I was really impressed with how prepared, organized and decisive she was, especially because the house was already framed and I had to get going really fast," King says. "Fortunately, we were able to create a lot of magic in a short amount of time."
The magic begins the moment you step into the dramatic two-story foyer. At the far end, a staircase leads to the second story balcony and a tall leaded and beveled glass window graces the landing. A large round wooden table by Barbara Barry for Henredon intended to hold flower arrangements, candles, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres has been placed front and center.
"It's a big foyer but we managed to keep it cozy," King says. ("As big as the house is, all the rooms are livable, cozy and not overbearing," Katie Smith says. "And we use every square inch of the house.")
Another magical touch: The dining room, just to the left of the foyer, nestles within three draped cased arches. "The drapes are purely decorative," King says. "However, back in the day, people would keep 'portier' drapes like these closed to keep the heat in the room." (And, by the way, the "banded" drapes are certainly not run-of-the-mill either. Instead, each panel utilizes three different fabrics that have been layered and sewn together.

How to Clean Crystal Chandeliers | World To Win
Start with preparing the stuff you will need. According to domestic cleaning Frankston ,you have to be provided with a ladder,a few clean cloths and cotton swabs, some water, baking soda and mild detergent.
Take your side ladder and place it under the chandelier. It is much better to have the chandelier right in front of you while cleaning. That will help you see all dirty areas and clean them properly.
Dampen a cloth in water and wipe the chandelier. You might also use some of the mild detergent. Clean every single part and be careful with the wires. If you need, move the ladder. Some spots could be very dirty. Mix some baking soda with water and apply the solution to the chandelier. Baking soda is very suitable for cleaning crystal, because it will not damage it. Moreover,it will clean the pieces so well, that they will even shine better.
Some areas cannot be reached with cloths. But you can clean them with the cotton swabs, which you already have prepared. Dampen the swabs with water and wipe the dirty areas.
Sometimes it is really difficult to clean a crystal chandelier. And you might need to take it down and apart. That will help you clean all the parts as good as needed. Make sure that you remember the construction of the chandelier very well, because you will need to fix it in the end. Also, you have to be very careful, because being made of crystal, the chandelier is very fragile.
Cleaning your pretty chandelier is not a big deal. You just need to have enough time to do it. If you don’t ,you can call some professional cleaning company. For instance, house cleaning Melbourne can clean the whole house for you quickly and very well.
