Fire on the Post Road Displaces Seven
The Red Cross is helping two of the seven residents affected by an apartment fire on the Post Road.
The fire, quickly extinguished about 7 p.m. Saturday, occurred at 2425 Boston Post Road.
Carolyn Sherwin of the Red Cross said the agency is helping two of the residents, whose apartments suffered smoke, fire and water damage, with their immediate needs.
In addition, she said, four apartments are habitable though the residents can't get back in because gas and electric are turned off. Those folks do have places to stay until the power is turned on.
Sherwin said the Red Cross's volunteer team was able to respond quickly because the fire department called them right away.
"We were able to be right there," she said. "One of the volunteers on scene was our just-retired chairman of the board, Ed Merians. He's one of our top responders in the past year."
Sherwin lauded the community's fire, police and ambulance departments.
"We are very lucky to have good relationships with Mamaroneck village and town and Larchmont," she said.
