Evans aiming at both Tour and London
Australian Tour de France champion Cadel Evans hopes to do well at next year's London Olympics as well as successfully defend his title.
Evans, who took part in a 90.3 kms race through the historic city centre of Sint Niklaas on Friday, said he thought he could manage both events, even though they fall within weeks of each other.
"At this point in time, we are working towards the Tour de France in 2012," Evans, 34, said.
"Conveniently or inconveniently, depending which way you look at it and for me in the past it has been fine, we go to the Olympics just after the Tour de France in 2012.
"At this point we are planning to be competitive at both. Where it goes on with selections and so on, directions and team-mates, it's not up to me right now but we will be there."
Evans, the first Australian to win the Tour de France which finished last Sunday, added: "It brings more, more attention than any other race or success I had before.
"Now that it has happened I don't know if I can quite realise it yet. It's certainly one thing, one box I had unticked.

Cadel Evans eyes London Olympic ride
The 34-year-old Evans fulfilled his lifelong quest by securing the Tour de France title on Sunday in a victory celebrated as one of Australia’s finest sporting achievements.
Already a three-time Olympian, Evans would be a major draw at London 2012 if he makes the team.
A key issue is whether the road race and time trial courses will be challenging enough to suit his strengths.
“To be honest, I don’t know if the course is going to be suitable,” Evans told Australian Associated Press from his base in Switzerland.
“But if I can be the man for the job to represent the country, of course I would love to ride. If it’s a course more suitable to someone else, then it should be for someone else.”
The Olympic road events come just days after Evans is set to complete his Tour de France title defense, but he said that wasn’t a problem.
“The timing falls well for us as Tour riders ─ there’s also an interesting world championships course in 2012 and a few other things,” he said. “We have to prioritize and choose our goals, but Tour de France 2012 is going to come around really quickly.”
Evans started his career as a cross country cyclist, finishing ninth in the mountain bike race at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and seventh at the 2000 Sydney Games.
He then switched disciplines at the Beijing Games in 2008, finishing 15th in the road race, won by this year’s Tour de France King of the Mountains Samuel Sanchez. Evans then placed fifth in the time trial.
What he means is ‘does it have enough hills?’.
The course is due to be ridden at two thirds length on 14 August this year as a test, with many riders such as Boonen and Cavendish taking part, so he could find out if he wants. In my view it is fairly demanding – the course includes several circuits of Box Hill in Surrey that would sap most of the pure sprinters.
Steep hills or no, I don’t see Cav winning this one, despite the fondest wishes of the London organizers. When was the last time he won any road race in a GBR jersey? Without the well-oiled HTC train he’s sunk, and I can’t see Wiggo, Millar, Swift, G Thomas, etc. forming a well-oiled train … some of those guys are barely on speaking terms with Cav.
Olympic and Worlds races, even the flatter ones, tend to be won by guys who can “freelance sprint” off their opponents’ wheels.
