Low Point
In a month in which they lost only six games and never more than two in a row, there isn’t a lot to choose from here. So let’s focus on these last few days, which included the lone two-game slide, some bad news on Clay Buchholz ’s back and the dissipation of the trade for Rich Harden with Oakland. Still, that’s a pretty high low point.
High Point
Everything else? It’s been an outstanding month for the Red Sox, perhaps highlighted by their nine wins in 10 games before the All-Star break. That was a quick rebuttal to Boston’s bad stretch on the road at the end of June. At 20-6, it was the best July in franchise history.
Best AB
It might not have been the best at-bat of the month in the truest sense of the term, but Dustin Pedroia ’s game-tying, two-run single the other way off Wilton Lopez on July 1 in Houston, one pitch after arguing a call with home-plate umpire Laz Diaz , was one of the most memorable moments of the month. Pedroia’s argument didn’t end with the base hit, as he yelled over his shoulder back at Diaz while running to first.
